Wild Colour: Foraging & Natural Dyeing in the Woods

A Woodland Dye Experience, Rooted in Craft & Nature

Spend a day immersed in the woods, exploring the ancient practice of creating colour from the natural world. This guided experience invites you to slow down, connect with the land, and learn how to identify plants and natural materials traditionally used for natural dyeing.

We’ll begin with approximately two hours of guided foraging, where you’ll learn how to find and sustainably harvest dye plants, understand their properties, and discover the colours they produce. After foraging, we’ll return to a secluded cabin in the woods to share a light, foraged lunch.

From there, you’ll take part in a hands-on natural dye workshop. You’ll learn how to properly mordant fabric so that colour bonds and lasts, which fabrics work best for plant dyes, and how to enhance and shift colours naturally. We’ll explore a variety of dyeing techniques including dip dyeing, bundle dyeing, and press dyeing. Each participant will create a one-of-a-kind wild-dyed tote bag to take home.

You will not only learn how to source natural dyes from the landscape, but how to transform them into lasting, wearable colour.
